Strivings and Aspirations

Holiness, Humility and Hunger for the things of God are but three in a litany of spiritual indicators of one's pursuit of Godly character. At the outset, I admit that I have no delusion or conceit of having arrived at any of these spiritual fruit. In all honesty, I doubt I will fully in this lifetime. Nonetheless, they are key strivings  and aspirations for myself and have been for people of faith throughout scripture:

HOLY - You shall be holy to me; for I the Lord am holy, and I have separated you from the other peoples to be mine. (Leviticus 20:26)

HUMBLE - And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for

“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:5b-6)

HUNGRY - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

We should aspire to walk in holiness more consistently, aim to humble ourselves before God and our fellow man genuinely, and desire a persistent hunger for the things of God.  As Paul so aptly stated in Philippians 3:12 - 14, "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." 

My desire and encouragement are to press towards greater Christlikeness in response to the grace of God bestowed upon me and encourage others likewise.  These strivings are necessary as they impact our vertical relationship with God and our horizontal relationships with one another.  As such, I hope to engage our culture, our lives and times with holiness, humility, and a hunger for the Lord.
